About
Carmen Chalas is a resident of Lawrence, Massachusetts. Her country of origin is the Dominican Republic, as are her parents. Since childhood, she aspired to be an artist or work directly with people.
She completed her high school education at the Cardenal Sancha school in Santo Domingo, then trained at the Dominican Institute of Journalism and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Social Communication with a specialty in Public Relations from the Interamerican University.
In the Dominican Republic, Carmen served as News Voice for the University News program on the Voice of the People Station, worked at Radio Televisión Dominicana, and at Radio Cristal Station on the Notisiempre newscast.
In the United States, Carmen is the host and producer of "Micrófono Abierto" for over 25 years. The show broadcasts on Power 800 AM / 102.9 FM every Sunday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, covering community issues, politics, culture, health, and events relevant to the Greater Lawrence Latino community and beyond.
